Thanks to my crazy-busy weekend, I almost forgot to write my monthly workout recap! But finally, here it is.

I didn’t run that much last month, somehow my running mojo kept leaving me again and again. I’d like to blame it on the weather, which has been alternating between scorching heat and chilly thunder storms for the past few weeks. I’m not exaggerating, I wish I was.

But I wasn’t that lazy either! Last month I went back to the gym, where one of the trainers planned out a circuit-style strength training routine for me. I’ve already completed it twice, and I really like it. It seriously kills my arms every time!

And I’ve also been biking a lot, either outdoors or on one of the stationary bikes at my gym. Let’s call June the Month Of Cross-Training, okay?

Running

  • 7 times
  • Total distance: 23.4 miles (37,7 km)
  • Total time: 4:21:50

Biking

  • 3 times
  • Total distance: 28 miles (45,1 km)
  • Total time: 2:20:00

Other workouts:

  • 1 Pilates session (60 minutes)
  • 4 strength workouts (120 minutes)

While I ran less often in June compared to the previous months, I did achieve a new distance record! My longest run so far was 5.3 miles. Not bad at all!

In July I’ll try to increase my mileage again, while keeping up with my strength training. Not an easy goal for a girl who loves her couch so much, but I’ll do my very best.

Guess what, last week I returned to the gym! I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with the gym, with a strong emphasis on the ‘hate’ part. Last December I joined my current gym, a rather cheap one close to my work place. But I only used their treadmills, nothing else. When spring arrived, I completely stopped going, as I prefer outdoor runs.

I’m currently struggling with my motivation to workout, or rather with the lack of motivation. So I’m trying to mix things up, which includes going back to the gym. Last Friday after work I finally went, I rode on one of their stationary bikes for about 20 minutes, and even liked it!

Yesterday I went again, this time I first ran on the treadmill, then I did some abs moves (holy planks!), followed by another bike ride. I was a total sweaty mess, but also happy about getting a great workout.

The Stats:

  • Distance: 2 miles (3,2 km)
  • Time: 21:45 minutes
  • Average pace: 10:56 min/mile
  • Feeling: Sweaty

This Friday I have a date with one of the gym’s trainers. Let’s see what she has in store for me.

April was a really great month for me and my training! I ran more often, longer, and faster than last month. And I signed up for my very first race! It’s a 5k close to my workplace, and it’s already this Friday! I’m getting nervous.

Running

  • 11 times
  • Total distance: 35.93 miles (57,82 km)
  • Total time: 6:32:00

Other workouts:

  • 1 Pilates session (1 hour)
  • 1 elliptical workout (30 minutes)
  • 1 bike ride (18 miles in 1:45 hours)

I really ran a lot last month! For next month I plan to include some longer runs and gradually increase my distances. There was another bike ride, too. The hills around here nearly killed me, again. But that won’t stop me from riding. Ha!

I’ve been slacking a little with my Pilates class lately, but it’s not entirely my fault. Our instructor went on vacation for two weeks. I’m looking forward to getting back into my class this week.

Wait, there’s more! I’ve also been continuing the 100 pushups program. Today I did my final test and completed 40 full pushups at once! Considering that I started with only five I’m very proud of my progress. My arms look better than ever, just in time for summer dresses. 🙂

Is it just me or was March just passing by at light speed?! It was a busy but good month, I accomplished a lot and made some great progress. Last month I had my first run with an average pace of under 11:00 min/mile!

Running

  • 9 times
  • Total distance: 26.2 miles (42,16 km)
  • Total time: 4:56:05

Other workouts:

  • 3 Pilates sessions (3 hours)
  • 1 elliptical workout (30 minutes)
  • 1 bike ride (13 miles in 80 minutes)

Look, I ran a marathon! I didn’t plan this, I swear. Ok, it took me an entire month, but I’m still proud of it. And I’ve had my first bike ride this year. Looking forward to many more, as I really love biking.

I’ve also been doing the 100 pushups program. The first two weeks went really well and I’m already a lot stronger than when I started. Awesome!

This month I want to increase my mileage again, adding some longer runs. And I’ll continue the pushups program, let’s see how many I can do at the end of April.

Today the Guy and I decided it was time to revive an old tradition, the Sunday Afternoon Bike Ride. We took a long break from biking during the winter, because I just can’t bring myself to bike outdoors in freezing temperatures. It was sunny but still quite cold, about 45 F, but we wanted to go anyway, so we simply put on a few extra layers.

As our destination we chose one of our favorite restaurants, which is about 6 miles away from our home. The area around Hopsville is quite hilly. I would have prefered an easier course for our first ride, but we just don’t have one around here. Our route starts with a long, moderate ascend, that showed me that I lost quite some stamina during the winter.

We’ve taken that course a few times last summer, so I knew that there was another hill after about 4 miles, but a much harder one! It’s a long, very steep ascend, that nearly killed me during my first attempt. But today I conquered that hill like a pro! At least I felt like one.

At the halfway point we stopped at the restaurant, to warm up with some hot drinks. The Guy had coffee, and I ordered a cup of camomile tea. Exactly what I needed at that moment.

The way home was a bit easier, as it was mostly downhill or flat, with only one moderate ascent shortly before arriving at home.

All in all we covered 13 miles (21 km) in about 80 minutes. Not bad for our first ride!

So, how did we re-fuel after our ride? With homemade pizza!

I polished off the entire thing, and I don’t feel guilty at all! I worked hard for that pizza!
