Remember the Eat In Month Challenge I wrote about last week? Last Saturday I cheated already. Oops!
But there is a good reason for my slip-up! Last Saturday was J-Girl’s (the Boyfriend’s daughter) 18th birthday. Her initial plan was to celebrate with her friends, but she spontaneously changed her mind and made a request to go out and have sushi with us. Of course we couldn’t say no. So J-Girl, her boyfriend D, my lovely guy, and I went to F-Town to check out a sushi restaurant that has received great credits online and has a decent menu with many vegetarian options.
This time I even brought my camera along! We ordered miso soup, octopus “kimchi” and edamame for starters. The soup was gone too fast to take a picture, sorry about that! It was good but a bit too salty for my liking. The edamame were great though, I probably ate most of the bowl myself.
The octopus “kimchi” was eaten by the omnivores. They said it was pretty good, but more like a salad than kimchi. We are some serious kimchi connoisseurs!
Shortly after that our sushi plates arrived. I had a mix of different veggie rolls, J-Girl and D shared a plate for two, and my boyfriend ordered the duck teriyaki.
When I discovered rice balls with soy bean filling on the dessert menu I just had to try them! As I was already kind of full, I shared them with everyone. The rice balls were delicious! Soft and sticky, but not too sweet. Just how I like them. But I didn’t like the sauce at all. I was some kind of ginger sirup. Far too much ginger for my liking.
Overall it was a great night for us all, we really enjoyed J-Girl’s birthday sushi. Even if it meant for me that I cheated on the Challenge. I’ll just try to do my best for the rest of the month.
