Archive for April, 2011

Less than one week until my first race! I’m getting quite nervous. But my training is going really well actually. Not sure if this is right, but I decided to reduce my mileage a little, to make sure my legs are fresh and well rested on race day. We’ll see if it works.

For yesterday’s Lunch Break Run I had planned to run a little farther than usual. I want to gradually increase my distances, so I can run a 10k one day.

The Stats:

  • Distance: 4.23 miles (6 km)
  • Time: 45:00 minutes
  • Average pace: 10:38 min/mile
  • Feeling: Awesome

Great pace for such a long distance! And I ran the entire 45 minutes without stopping or walking at all!

Just for fun I re-read some of my older posts from November, and I can’t believe the progress I’ve made in just six months. I’ve reduced my average pace by two minutes and almost doubled my monthly mileage! I’d say that’s quite good for someone who’s not a natural at running.

Now I’m off to a very busy weekend, filled with an epic bachelorette party, lots of alcohol, and junky food. I hope I’ll get out of this alive.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Happy Easter Run

I took a few days off of running and blogging. Somehow I just needed a mental break. But now I’m back! I celebrated Easter Sunday with a quick 5k run.

The Stats:

  • Distance: 3.1 miles (5 km)
  • Time: 32:45 minutes
  • Average pace: 10:33 min/mile
  • Feeling: Sweaty

It was very warm for April, so I was sweating buckets after only a few minutes. But surprisingly my legs felt strong and rested today, so I gave it all I had. This was my fastest 5k ever! I’m so proud I got off of my couch and ran. I’m so going to rock that Airport Run!

Happy Easter!

Today I tried to do some add some sprints to my run. Boy, that was tough! Somehow I was quite exhausted from my ‘warm-up’, so the sprints weren’t as fast as I hoped. But it still went ok.

The Stats:

  • Distance: 2.8 miles (4,5 km)
  • Time: 30:00 minutes
  • Average pace: 10:42 min/mile
  • Feeling: Exhausted

Great pace! Well, great for me, at least. Let’s see how fast I can get until race day. Wheee!

PIPES Challenge Update
"

It’s already the fifth week of the challenge. Yesterday I did the next exhaustion test, and could only do 26 full pushups. This means that I won’t advance to week five of the program, instead I’ll go back to week three, but this time I’ll do column three, not one. I’m actually not disappointed at all, as I’ve already come further than I had expected at the beginning. My arms look awesome already!

See you!

Yes, that’s right. I finally worked up the courage to sign up for my very first race. But more on that later.

I took the weekend off of blogging and spent some quality time with some of my favorite girls. We had such a blast! But I did squeeze in some pushups and a short run on Sunday morning.

The Stats:

  • Distance: 3.1 miles (5 km)
  • Time: 34:00 minutes
  • Average pace: 10:58 min/mile
  • Feeling: Indecisive

I felt a bit sluggish so I just took it easy.

Oh yeah, about that race thing. My co-workers/running buddies talked my into doing the 5k of the Munich Airport Run. I’m quite nervous, the whole event seems to be bigger than I thought, and it’s only three weeks until race day! I won’t set any specific time goals yet, let’s just see how the next weeks of training will go.

See you!

Another Friday, another Lunch Break Run. We have been very consistent with this, I’m very proud of us. This time we went back to the trail by the river. What I love about that trail is that it’s flat, scenic, quiet, and lined by lots of trees that provide some shadow on hot days. Today was not hot at all, though, but it was mostly sunny, so I’m not complaining.

We even had a guest runner today! Co-worker W, who works at a different building, came over during his lunch break to join us. Just like my other running buddies, W is tall and fast. Ugh.

The Stats:

  • Distance: 4 miles (6,4 km)
  • Time: 42:40 minutes
  • Average pace: 10:39 min/mile
  • Feeling: Strong

I felt really great during that run. Don’t get me wrong, it was still tough, especially the first 1.5 miles with the guys, but somehow my legs felt strong and fit today. I had no idea I had this in me! I’m so happy and proud!

Oh yeah, lunch was veggie chili and baked sweet potato, the best sweet potato ever. Yum!

Have a great weekend!
